Moroccan Family Massacre: Six Dead in Salé as Police Investigate Motive

Three days after the death of six members of the same family, including a child and an infant, in their home in the Errahma neighborhood in Salé, the mystery surrounding the circumstances of this tragedy remains complete. Pending the results of the investigations by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police, the versions on this mass murder vary according to the sources.

Moroccans are asking a thousand questions that could explain the horrible massacre that took place in this family home on February 6. The National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ), in coordination with the provincial judicial police service of Salé, are doing their best to find the key to the story, in order to explain the causes of this tragedy.

According to the newspaper Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, the first elements of the investigation tend towards the hypothesis that the murderer was inside the family home, since the door was closed. This is also suggested by the BNPJ press release, which states that "the initial findings indicate the absence of signs of forced entry on the doors and windows of the two-story family home, guarded by two dogs."

For the moment, "sweeping and technical inspection operations are being carried out at the crime scene by forensic and technical police officers and BNPJ officers, in order to gather all the biological samples and material evidence, as well as the necessary testimonies, to determine the circumstances of these criminal acts."

In a press release, the police said that officers had intervened in this house to conduct an investigation and technical expertise following a fire that had broken out, before discovering five bodies bearing traces of injuries caused by a sharp object and serious burns due to this fire. Five people were already dead, the last person died in the hospital, from asphyxiation.

The victims’ relatives have called for legal action against the neighbors who are telling everyone that the son of the house would be the author of this heinous act. For them, it is inconceivable that a family man could have killed his 3-month-old baby, his parents and his wife. According to them, the crime would have been committed by a gang of 4 criminals. But there is no valid evidence to support this version of the facts.

While the thesis of a crime by a relative is being circulated, the newspaper wonders about certain aspects of the tragedy that deserve reflection. How is it possible that the victims remained inert in the face of their aggressor, without resisting him? How is it possible that they did not scream or call for help? The questions will continue to haunt the residents of the Errahma neighborhood in Salé, as well as Moroccan public opinion, until the BNPJ provides a clear and precise explanation of the circumstances of this tragedy.
