Moroccan Families Struggle with Soaring Private School Costs

Education in Morocco has become too expensive. The commercialism of private schools places families in a delicate situation, due to fees that are not subject to any price control. Registration and insurance fees as well as the imposed monthly fees do not follow any pricing logic.
According to Akhbarona, while the reference premium for school insurance does not exceed 10 dirhams per student, parents have to pay amounts ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 dirhams.
This insurance, whose premium decreases depending on the number of enrollments, entitles, within the framework of civil liability, to a ceiling of 500 dirhams for medical expenses, and 15,000 dirhams in the event of death.
The choice of private schools by parents cannot be described as deliberate, adds the site, which attributes full responsibility to the educational and pedagogical system within public institutions. The imbalance observed in the structure and architecture of public education has not been eradicated, despite the reform policies put in place.
The attitude of parents is understandable, when one considers the educational failure, the waste, the violence between students and the teaching staff, the flagrant lack of human resources and educational and pedagogical conditions, not to mention the lack of teaching equipment and the lack of compliance of training programs with the needs of the job market.
Furthermore, the site specifies that the excesses of private schools are not limited to the higher cycle. Some nurseries and maternity hospitals in Casablanca impose monthly fees of 2,000 dirhams, in addition to registration fees of 2,500 dirhams, under the cover of imaginary justifications.
