Moroccan Exports Plummet 18% as COVID-19 Hits Auto and Textile Sectors

The coronavirus pandemic has had repercussions on Moroccan exports, which fell by 18.3% in the first half of 2020.
Exports amounted to 11.231 billion euros compared to 13.752 billion in 2019. According to the Office des Changes, this decline is due to "the decrease in shipments from almost all sectors. The automotive sector is the one that has paid the heaviest price, with "export sales falling from 1.28 billion euros to 262.40 million euros at the end of June," reports BBC Afrique, which points out that the textile sector is the second most affected sector in exports.
According to the same source, the aeronautics industry has seen its shipments decline by 18.1%, losing 141.6 million euros. Agricultural and agri-food exports fell by 4.3% from 3.207 billion euros to 3.068 billion euros at the end of June.
