Moroccan Expert Elected to UN Migrant Workers Committee, Boosting Global Migration Efforts

Mohamed Charef was elected, on Monday in New York, to the Committee on Migrant Workers, thus supporting the role played by Morocco in the adoption and development of the Global Compact for Migration.
The ninth meeting of the States Parties to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families saw the selection of the Moroccan candidate with 46 votes out of the 53 voting countries.
According to the daily Le Matin, this success "reflects international recognition of the efforts made by Morocco to protect and preserve the rights of migrants, based on the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI," said Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita.
Composed of 14 experts, the Committee ensures the monitoring and implementation of the rights set out in the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families by the Member States.
Mohamed Charef is the president of the Regional Human Rights Commission of Agadir, director of training on migration and sustainable development at the Ibn Zohr University, and a consultant to various international organizations on policies related to employment, economic development and the socio-professional integration of migrants.
