Moroccan Expats Fight Property Restrictions in Sidi Rahal, Appeal to Embassies

Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) are calling on the Moroccan diplomatic representations in their countries of residence to have the restrictions on their property in Sidi Rahal, taken by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, lifted.
Directly affected by the ministry’s decisions regarding the family habous affiliated with land title number 13990/c in Sidi Rahal Chatai, under the prefecture of Berrechid, these MREs have decided to turn to the diplomatic representations in the hope of obtaining the lifting of the restrictions on the usufruct and use rights on their land in this locality.
In a letter of which Hespress has obtained a copy and addressed to the Moroccan diplomatic institutions in France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, United States, Netherlands, Germany and United Kingdom, the complainants claim to have acquired several plots with a total area of 491 hectares, from land title number 13990/c, located in the center of Sidi Rahal Chatai.
According to the MREs, all the real rights on this real estate property that is part of the family Habous belong to the descendants or assignees. They claim that apart from the guardianship, supervision and management, the Ministry of Habous has no property rights over this land. This is why they denounce these decisions of the ministry, which they describe as "doubtful and unfair".
The complainants are asking the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for help to put an end to this injustice. The MREs reserve the right to organize protest demonstrations and take the case to international courts to obtain justice. "We just want our rights, no more, no less," they said.
