Moroccan Expats Face Challenges in Repatriating Deceased Loved Ones

The repatriation of the remains of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) to Morocco is an uphill battle. A deputy from the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) is questioning the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, on the issue.

In a written question addressed to the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, Hind Bennani Rtel, a deputy from the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), points out that Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) constantly suffer from the conditions and procedures for transporting the bodies of their deceased from Moroccan airports. According to her, their concern to repatriate the bodies of their deceased to Morocco to bury them in cemeteries located in the place of birth of the deceased is confronted with tedious and exhausting procedures and steps, particularly upon receiving the body at Mohammed V International Airport.

The journey begins from the place dedicated to goods to the place reserved for passengers, followed by the direction to the national security post to complete the administrative and security procedures, details the elected official. Then you have to go back to the badge issuance service to return the badge, and finally go back to the goods reception service to recover the coffin after paying the due fees. The process takes at best two and a half hours. As for the round trip distance, it is not less than ten kilometers by car, Rtel specified.

Recalling that the one-stop shop adopted in certain other areas has proven its effectiveness in facilitating services to users, the elected official calls on Mohammed Abdeljalil to ease the procedures for repatriating the bodies of MREs to Morocco.
