Moroccan Expat Falls Victim to ’Jinn Treasure’ Scam, Suspect Arrested

A Moroccan Resident Abroad (MRE) was scammed by a fraudster living in Meknes. He made her believe in the existence of a treasure guarded by jinns in the basement of his home in Taza. He agreed to chase them away for 15% of the treasure.
The two met on Facebook. The fraudster, a young man from Meknes, presented himself to the Moroccan woman as a spiritual therapist, reports Aujourd’hui Le Maroc. The lady then told him that her sister was possessed by jinns and that she needed an exorcism.
After two days, he asserted with confidence that his jinns had driven out the evil jinns from his sister’s body. Luckily. The sister, an epileptic, regained her health. This supposed service earned him 1,000 €.
In the wake of this, he revealed to her that a treasure consisting of forty kilos of gold and precious stones was buried in wooden crates in the basement of his home in Taza.
But recovering this treasure implied first of all chasing away jinns. The young man assured the Moroccan Resident Abroad (MRE) that he could do it in return for 15% of the treasure.
This time, he did not have the luck. He managed to scam the MRE for 300,000 DH. However, the deception was discovered. After a complaint filed by the lady with the police in Meknes, the defendant was arrested and brought to justice.
