Moroccan Eid Al-Adha: Sardi Sheep Prices Drop Amid Health Crisis

Much sought after by Moroccans, the Sardi breed of sheep seduces with its outward appearance and the taste of its meat. This year, its price, once high, has been revised downwards, in this period of health crisis.
This breed of sheep exists in the regions of Casablanca, Settat and Chaouia. According to Le360, more than 90% of the inhabitants of these regions prefer this breed.
As for the price of these sheep, they vary between 2,000 and 4,000 dirhams per unit and can go up to 6,000 dirhams, or even more, depending on the size and weight of the sheep. "But there is something for every budget," explains a breeder.
According to Mustapha El Kettari, another breeder met in Médiouna, prices have seen a 15 to 20% drop this year compared to previous years, due to the sharp drop in demand due to the coronavirus pandemic. He also indicates that the Sardi breed, given its quality, has been raised in the Oriental and northern regions of Morocco for some time.
