Moroccan Education Officials Probed in Massive Fraud Investigation

Following the alarming report published on the emergency program of the National Education by the Court of Auditors, 300 senior officials in the sector, suspected of mismanagement, are currently being heard by the justice system.
These are senior officials from the Ministry of National Education, former directors of the Regional Academies, provincial delegates as well as heads of department, who are being questioned by investigating judges, reports Al Akhbar, stressing that the investigation could extend to other ministry officials.
These various officials at different levels have been singled out for shortcomings in the awarding of public contracts. It is precisely the recording of a telephone conversation between the manager of a company and the former director of the Rabat Academy that triggered this scandal.
The Court of Auditors had published an alarming report on the emergency program of the National Education in which it pointed to serious dysfunctions in the spending of allocated credits. These financial crimes would be committed in the cities of Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech and Fez, the newspaper specifies.
