Moroccan Drug Lord Offers Judge $1 Million Bribe in Major Trafficking Case

An international drug trafficker offered the investigating judge at the court of first instance in Kénitra to choose an amount between 1 and 10 million dirhams, in exchange for his release.
According to the daily Assabah, the judge, refusing to succumb to temptation, decided to place the defendant, who is involved in a case of trafficking 3.5 tons of cannabis, in pre-trial detention in the local prison El Aouad.
Also prosecuted for money laundering in real estate and tourism projects, the drug baron, owner of several cafes in Tangier and Marrakech, had been behind the arrest of two gendarmes accused of conspiracy and disclosure of professional secrets on sites favorable to trafficking.
Following a denunciation addressed by unknown persons to the Attorney General, Mohamed Abdennabaoui, accusing him of embezzlement, the investigating judge had seized the club of Moroccan magistrates with a view to opening an investigation into the accusation, while publishing a declaration of assets on his Facebook page.
On this occasion, the club of Moroccan magistrates held the meeting of its Annual Council in Kénitra, in solidarity with their colleague, under the title "Together for effective protection of the rights and duties of magistrates and for awareness against denunciations and allegations of unknown origin targeting the judiciary".
