Moroccan Doctor Faces Trial for Alleged Anti-Islamic Facebook Posts, Family Cites Mental Health Concerns

A general practitioner has been placed in pre-trial detention at the Aïn Aïcha prison following accusations of offense against Islam. The incriminated publications on his Facebook page were judged as an attack on Islam, Muslims, the Quran and the prophet Muhammad.
The court of first instance of Taounate has postponed the trial by a week. He will then be prosecuted for this offense, in accordance with the Penal Code, which provides for sentences of up to five years in prison in case of offense committed by public means.
Renowned for his good conduct and his relations with patients, the doctor would suffer from intermittent psychological disorders. His family plans to present a medical file to the court, hoping to obtain his provisional release on bail.
