Moroccan Diaspora Remittances Hit Record $10 Billion Despite Pandemic

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences on activities, remittances from Moroccans living abroad (MDM) reached 100 billion dirhams (MMDH) in 2021. This amount was revealed on Monday by the delegate minister in charge of Investment Mohcine Jazouli.

It was during the weekly plenary session of oral questions in the House of Representatives, held on Monday, that Mohcine Jazouli, in outlining the main lines of the strategy of his ministry in the areas of investment and the business climate, announced that remittances from Moroccans living abroad (MDM) reached 100 billion dirhams (MMDH) last year.

He took the opportunity of his intervention to announce the operationalization of a set of mechanisms that aim to contribute to the improvement of the business climate and the stimulation of investment, including the reform of the legislative and regulatory framework for the mobilization of land, the development of industrial zones to international standards at the level of all the Regions of the Kingdom, the simplification of the procedures for the development and revision of urban planning documents by integrating the economic dimension as well as the acceleration of the implementation of reforms relating to the simplification of administrative procedures.

These are measures, which according to Mohcine Jazouli, aim to bring the contribution of private investment to two-thirds of total investment by 2035.
