Moroccan Diaspora Key to New Development Model, Says CCME Chief

Moroccans living abroad (MRE) are one of the five central pillars on which the realization of the new development model (NMD), the report of which was presented last week by the Special Commission on the Development Model (CSMD), is based. In an interview with Atlasinfo, the Secretary General of the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) presents an analysis of the report, while specifying the role of the MRE.
From the outset, CCME Secretary General Abdellah Boussouf expressed his gratitude to the CSMD for having emphasized the MRE as a lever for human and economic development in Morocco. Indeed, one of the objectives of the CCME since its creation has been to put in place a comprehensive and integrated public policy that places the MRE in all sectors, in order to meet their expectations and mobilize their skills in all areas. Thus, with the CSMD report, Moroccans of the world will effectively participate in the development of Morocco, but a legislative framework is necessary for the realization of the objectives, Boussouf specified.
In the opinion of the official, to attract highly qualified profiles, it will be necessary to strengthen the cultural and emotional ties between Moroccans of the world and their country. It is also important to put in place a strategy to ensure the harmonization of the legal and institutional framework in order to meet the requirements in terms of career development and innovation. Regarding the creation of a Moroccan Agency for Cultural Action Abroad, it will encourage the realization of cultural products with a Moroccan essence in the host languages and highlight the Moroccan cultural production, in order to keep them alive over time.
Furthermore, during the pandemic, the MRE provided support to their country of origin, through their transfers which reached a record. But their role must go beyond that, because, thanks to their presence in more than 50 countries in the world, they must make Moroccan products known to the international public, in order to bring their region of origin and their regions of residence closer together, through partnerships in several fields. In this sense, the CCME has recently concluded a cooperation agreement with the CGEM, in order to bring together Moroccan skills and entrepreneurs abroad to invest in Morocco, Boussouf concluded.
