Moroccan Diaspora Faces Soaring Airfares, Government Promises Unfulfilled

MP Fatima Kachouti has questioned the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, about the rise in airline ticket prices for Moroccans in Europe who wish to travel to Morocco during the summer.
During the oral question session at the House of Representatives, the parliamentarian noted that the government is not keeping its promises, recalling that at the beginning of the year, the Head of the Executive, Aziz Akhannouch, had announced tickets from 300 to 600 dirhams for the summer. Today, the reality is quite different. Ticket prices are on the rise, denounced Fatima Kachouti, stating that this situation will prevent many Moroccans in the diaspora from visiting the kingdom this summer.
In response, the minister explained that booking remains the best option for Moroccans living abroad to obtain affordable tickets during the summer season, stressing that the government cannot set ticket prices due to the liberalization of the market. Since 2006 in Morocco, airlines are subject to the law of supply and demand.
