Moroccan Cyclists Freed After Month-Long Kidnapping in Sahel Region

Morocco has managed to free Abderrahmane Serhani and Driss Fatihi, the two Moroccan cyclists kidnapped more than a month ago in the Sahel region, precisely in the border area between Burkina Faso and Niger.
The two Moroccan cyclists, reported missing in the Sahel region, would currently be in Niamey, Niger, where they are undergoing medical examinations. Since their arrival in Burkina Faso from Côte d’Ivoire, Abderrahmane Serhani and Driss Fatihi had not given any news of themselves, even though they had indicated that they were heading towards the border to Niger.
The Association of Tourist Cyclists of Souss-Massa had reported the disappearance of the two cyclists and launched an appeal to find them. On March 29, one of the two cyclists announced in a video shared on his Facebook page that he was heading to Burkina Faso, a country whose northeast has been the target of regular attacks since 2015 by armed groups linked to Al-Qaeda and Daesh.
