Moroccan Customs Seize 8.3 Tons of Cannabis in Major Drug Bust

The harvest at the beginning of this October was fruitful in the fight against drug trafficking. At the ports of Casablanca and Tanger-Med, as well as at the land border post of Guerguarate, since October 11, 8.3 tons of chira have been seized by the customs services on information provided by the national security.
The traffickers are full of imagination in order to deceive the vigilance of the security forces.
But the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) indicated, in a press release, that the customs services in charge of export control at the Port of Casablanca, in collaboration with the Anti-Drug Brigade and with the specialized services of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) manage to circumvent the modus operandi.
This is how they discovered, last Friday, 142 kg of chira in the form of tablets. They were carefully hidden in hiding places arranged in a double wall under the floor of a container presented empty for export and which was destined for Spain.
As for the customs services operating at the land border post of Guerguarate, in the south of the country, they managed to thwart, last Monday, a second attempt to export 6 tons of chira in the form of tablets hidden in bales, after having scanned a truck.
Another seizure was made the same day, this time at the Port of Tanger-Med by the customs services in charge of export control, in collaboration with the Anti-Drug Brigade and the DGSN services: 2,200 kg of chira were seized.
Following a scan check and a very thorough physical check, the drugs were found in the spare tires, the tank and the floor of a trailer destined, once again, for Spain.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered additional investigations which were entrusted to the Judicial Police in order to determine all the ramifications of these drug trafficking networks, specifies a press release from the ADII.
