An attempt to export 1680 goldfinch birds was thwarted in the early hours of Thursday in Oujda.
During a control operation on national road number 6 leading to the entrance of the city of Oujda, the customs officers managed to intercept a passenger car with 28 wooden crates, each containing 60 "elegant goldfinch" birds, with an estimated market value of 840,000.00 dirhams.
Caught in the act, the driver managed to flee. He could not be arrested.
As for the birds, they were handed over to the Provincial Directorate of Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification of Oujda.
