Moroccan Court Sentences 'Moul Triporteur' Terror Cell Members to 60 Years in Prison

The criminal chamber of the court of first instance in Salé sentenced the four remaining members of the so-called "Moul triporteur" terrorist cell to a cumulative sentence of 60 years in prison. Abderrazak A., the emir of this cell dismantled in September 2020 in Témara, died in prison on December 26 due to health complications.

Accused of having planned, with "Moul triporteur", to slit the throat of a resident of Temara on the pretext that he had adopted Shiite Islam, the lieutenant of "Moul triporteur", an itinerant vendor born in 1991 and single, was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He and Abderrazak A. are also accused of attempting to steal a car that would be used as a "battering ram" against police officers in Temara, whom they planned to assassinate. As for the three other members of the "Moul triporteur" terrorist cell, they were each sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The Special Forces of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) had dismantled this terrorist cell on September 10, 2020. In total, five terrorists had been arrested. This cell was preparing to carry out attacks with explosive devices in Témara. Abderrazak A., nicknamed "Moul triporteur" (the man with the tricycle) or "El Haich" (the ogre), was the mastermind. Detained in the Tiflet prison, he had killed a prison guard on October 27, 2020. The administration of the local Salé 2 prison had announced his death on December 26, 2020. He had died from health complications.
