Moroccan Court Sentences Hotel Guards to 85 Years for Saudi Tourist’s Death

The Casablanca Court of Appeal sentenced five hotel security guards in Casablanca to 85 years in prison, accused of the murder of a Saudi.
Two of the accused were sentenced to 20 years in prison each, and the other three to 15 years in prison each, for "complicity in intentional violence causing death without intent to do so and sequestration, and complicity in intentional violence causing death without intent to kill and complicity in sequestration".
The accused were also ordered to pay jointly a compensation of 300,000 dirhams to the victim’s wife, 150,000 dirhams to the victim’s mother, 150,000 dirhams to the victim, 100,000 dirhams to each of his three minor children, and 100,000 dirhams to each of the two other plaintiffs.
The facts date back to August 2022, when the Saudi national was assaulted by a group of individuals following a dispute at the hotel where he was staying in Casablanca, which led to his death. Informed of the victim’s death, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Rabat took the necessary steps for the repatriation of his body.
