Moroccan Court Sentences Gendarmerie Colonels in Major Drug Trafficking Case

The criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal of Rabat has just handed down heavy sentences against senior officials of the Royal Gendarmerie.
Several colonels, as well as 26 gendarmes, were prosecuted in pre-trial detention, while 7 others were granted provisional release, for their alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking case.
In this context, 5 colonels were sentenced to prison terms. They are Colonel Britel (5 years), Colonel Chbihi (3 years), Colonel El Allam (2 years), Colonel Bennani (1 year), and Colonel Kaounou (no case).
Other elements of the Royal Gendarmerie, prosecuted in this case following the arrest of drug barons, were acquitted or sentenced to 4 years in prison, in previous trials.
