Moroccan Court Increases Sentence for Violent Attack on Waitress After Public Outcry

The Kenitra Court of Appeal has increased the sentence of the man who violently attacked Khadija in the face.
The anger of internet users has been heard. On Friday, the Kenitra Court of Appeal sentenced the man who violently attacked Khadija, a waitress residing in the Sidi Kacem region, to two years and six months of imprisonment. He is also required to pay the victim civil compensation set at 200,000 dirhams. On May 27, the Court of First Instance of Mechra Bel Ksiri had sentenced the attacker to two months in detention with a fine of 3,000 dirhams. A judgment that had caused outrage both in associative circles and among ordinary citizens due to the seriousness of the facts.
Khadija had been violently assaulted in the face by a young man from a wealthy family under the influence of alcohol. He made advances to her, but was met with refusal from this divorced woman. The man allegedly broke a bottle of alcohol and planted it in the young woman’s face. She ended up with 88 stitches. The doctor issued her a medical incapacity certificate for 35 days.
