Moroccan Court Hands Down 260-Year Sentence in GenZ 212 Protest Crackdown

During these incidents recorded in the cities of Houara, Taroudant, Biougra and Ait Amira, police equipment was destroyed. Gendarmerie vehicles were set on fire and law enforcement officers were assaulted.

Some 33 people arrested for their involvement in these acts of vandalism of public and private property and violence against the security forces were sentenced by the Agadir court to 260 years in prison.

In detail, there are 19 defendants from Houara, 12 of whom were sentenced to 10 years in prison each, one to 6 years, another to 5 years, and another to 1 year in prison. Another was sentenced to 1 year in prison and the payment of damages to the National Security and the Royal Gendarmerie.

The eight defendants from Biougra were each sentenced to 10 years in prison, as was one defendant from Tiznit. Four defendants from Taroudant were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 1 year to 15 years. Another defendant from Ait Amira was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
