Moroccan Court Delays Trial of Alleged Drug Lord in Singer’s Husband Murder Case

The Court of Appeal of Casablanca has postponed to June 24 the examination of the case of Reda Abakrim alias "Turbo", the drug baron accused of the kidnapping and murder of the husband of Moroccan singer Rym Fikri.
The justice system decided on Monday to postpone the case to that date in order to allow the accused to properly prepare his defense. Reda Abakrim was arrested a few months ago on his arrival at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and murder of the husband of Moroccan singer Rym Fikri, parts of whose body were found in a river.
The French criminal of Moroccan origin had been acquitted at first instance in Morocco, after being sentenced in absentia to 21 years in prison in France for the murder of Brahim Hajaji, 26, one of his alleged accomplices, killed in 2007 in the town of La Queue-lez-Yvelines. According to the French press, the victim would have stolen nearly 600 kilos of hashish from the drug baron.
During his arrest, "Turbo" was in possession of several fake passports. The verification of his fingerprints allowed the Moroccan agents to discover that he was the subject of an arrest warrant issued in 2021 by the Court of Appeal of Versailles for his alleged involvement in the murder of the young Hajaji.
