Moroccan Court Convicts 12 in Fatal Navy Shooting of Migrant Teen

The court of first instance in Tétouan has delivered its verdict in the Hayat Belkacem case. This is the young girl who lost her life in September 2018 while trying to cross the Mediterranean.
The Royal Navy, that day, fired on the boat in which Hayat Belkacem and several other candidates for illegal immigration to Spain were traveling. The young girl died and three other people were injured, reports Telquel.
It is on this case that the court ruled, convicting on December 17 the pilot of the boat, a Spaniard, and his accomplices to 10 years in prison. Other convictions were handed down, namely four years in prison for six other people involved, four months for another, while three others were simply acquitted.
Karima El Ayachi, local head of the Moroccan Association of Human Rights (AMDH), believes that justice maintains a vicious circle by only convicting the little people, reports the same source.
