Moroccan Couple Jailed for Alleged Torture and Enslavement of Domestic Worker

Justice will be served for Kenza, the 27-year-old maid from Sidi Hajjaj in Settat, who was exploited, tortured and reduced to slavery. The prosecutor of the king of the court of first instance of Benslimane ordered the detention of her employers.
Kenza’s employers are facing Moroccan justice. After spending the night in custody at the local prison in Benslimane, they were brought before the court of first instance of the city on Thursday. At the end of the interrogation of the accused by the investigators, the king’s prosecutor at the same court examined the file in the middle of the week, particularly the various reports, before ordering the detention of the woman who employed Kenza and her husband, reports Assabah. The medical certificate presented by the victim setting the incapacity at 90 days, as well as her medical file where serious injuries are reported, including fractures to the skull, rib cage and a hand, as well as the loss of hearing in one of her ears, also required the attention of the public prosecutor’s office.
If the loss of hearing in one of Kenza’s ears is confirmed, the court of first instance of Benslimane will be divested of the case. The case will be brought before the Criminal Court of Casablanca, which is empowered to deal with cases of violence leading to permanent disability.
The investigation by the Royal Gendarmerie revealed that the defendant had no connection with justice, and that her husband was not part of any security force, as they claimed. The couple should be prosecuted for premeditated physical violence against a woman over whom they had authority and usurpation of functions governed by law.
