Moroccan Consulate Unveils Photo Book Capturing 50 Years of Morocco’s Soul
Wednesday 23 October 2019, by
The Catholic Institute of Toulouse experienced a unique event on Sunday. The Moroccan Consulate proceeded to launch the book "Itineraries". A 120-page art book that illustrates fifty years of photographs taken in Morocco by Gérard Bayssière, supported by texts by Mourad Hamayet.
In La Dépêche, the artist explains that beyond simple photography, his images seek above all to give and create emotion.
"For this exceptional work that I wanted, I called on an exceptional printer with the Escourbiac company in Graullet and I drew from my photo library. I only kept the images that go beyond the usual field. I selected 80 photos that convey a soul, an atmosphere, a feeling. The oldest date from 1970 and the most recent from 2010," explains Gérard Bayssière.
Furthermore, he stressed that for this illustrative book he wanted images comparable to a breviary in which the reader offers a journey in an enchanted world punctuated by magical and fairy-like detours.
According to the newspaper, the book is organized around twelve stanzas, the twelve pillars of the specificities of Morocco, including faith, light, the moon, the sun, the hand, hospitality, architecture, the woman, the cult of beauty and the horse.
The launch of Gérard Bayssière’s book took place in front of a crowd of captivated personalities who did not spare praise for the author’s performance. The launch ceremony, hosted by the academic Bernadette Rey Mimoso-Ruiz, was warmly welcomed by Myriem Nagi, the Consul General of Morocco in Toulouse.
The diplomat welcomed this collaboration with the Catholic Institute. It will continue in December during an interreligious dialogue on otherness, the newspaper specifies.
