Moroccan Consul Visits Nogent-le-Rotrou, Strengthens Franco-Moroccan Ties

At the invitation of Harold Huwart, a Nogent elected official and Vice-President of the Centre Val de Loire Regional Council, Kamal El Mahdaoui, Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Orléans, participated in the commemoration of the Appeal of June 18. Making two birds with one stone, he also met with members of the Moroccan community in Nogent, including the running champion Saïd Lazaar.
For the very first time in history, a Consul of Morocco is visiting Nogent-le-Rotrou. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, June 18, in the town hall salons, where Kamal El Mahdaoui, Consul General of Morocco in Orléans, was welcomed by Mayor François Huwart and a few elected officials, reports lechorepublicain.fr.
According to the same media, this visit aims, among other things, to consolidate and strengthen the Franco-Moroccan friendship. Kamal El Mahdaoui, who took part in the ceremony commemorating the Appeal of June 18, 1940, also met with elected officials and visited the Secos company, specialized in cosmetics. It should be remembered that the Centre Val de Loire region has an economic partnership with that of Fès-Meknès, in Morocco.
For Harold Huwart, the idea was to make the Moroccan authority "touch with their finger that the economy of the city of Nogent is very export-oriented by visiting the Secos company in the Val d’Huisne business park". But also and above all, the Vice-President of the Centre Val de Loire Regional Council in charge of Economic Development wanted to "show that [...] it is absolutely vital to maintain this capacity for links with [its] partners". And to add "that in Nogent, there is a small Moroccan community of about 300 people, which counts a lot, and that through these citizens, it is important to strengthen the ties".
Words that delighted the Moroccan Consul. Indeed, Kamal El Mahdaoui mentioned the importance of carrying out partnership actions with "a global vision", with the aim "of bringing together all those, municipalities, elected officials, associations, companies who can contribute to consolidating and strengthening this edifice that is the Moroccan-French friendship", reports the same source.
