Moroccan Companies Fall Victim to International Hacking Scheme, Interpol Investigates
Saturday 12 December 2020, by
Moroccan companies and their suppliers have filed complaints with national security services and Interpol. They were victims of hackers, who used their bank accounts for dubious and especially illegal transactions.
The cybercriminals took advantage of the lockdown period to take control of the email accounts of certain multinationals to inform their Moroccan partners of the opening of a new bank account, reports Assabah. They take advantage of the approaching payment date to operate discreetly.
The case came to light when the latest victim, a Moroccan textile company that maintains business relations with large companies in Europe and North America, transferred the entire amount of a transaction to a new bank account.
This transaction was ordered after the company received an email from a French supplier instructing it to carry out this operation. The company’s executives realized the deception when the supplier subsequently demanded payment of the invoice.
