Moroccan Coastal Villages Ride Wave of Summer Tourism Boom, Experts Call for Year-Round Strategy

The coastal villages in Morocco experience significant economic growth during the summer season, a period when many visitors invade the beaches and take advantage of the tourist services in these regions, thus contributing to the development of the local economy.

"The economic boom experienced by many coastal villages in Morocco during the summer season is mainly linked to the increase in domestic and foreign demand for tourist services during this period, as well as the prices of these services in these villages, which are considered affordable for many families, compared to other destinations and regions," explains Zoubir Bouhout, a tourism expert, to Hespress.

The specialist notes that "the coastal villages experience a strong influx of tourists seeking rest and relaxation in these regions with unique cultural and social characteristics," specifying that "this dynamic has a positive impact on the local economy of these villages, and on the incomes of local residents who see their incomes boosted thanks to various activities, particularly the daily rental of apartments and other services."

The expert stressed the need to implement "tourism and marketing approaches and strategies by the institutions responsible for tourism development, in order to transform this seasonal activity into a permanent one." This involves "diversifying the tourism offer, betting on tourism marketing and promotion, as well as training and supervising the beneficiaries of this dynamic."

In the same vein, Abdelkhalek Touhami, an economics expert, indicated that "the summer period is an opportunity for the inhabitants of these villages to improve their incomes and compensate for the periods of stagnation that mark the rest of the year, by animating the local economic cycle, which offers them an opportunity to strengthen their financial resources." The economist added that "the weakness of the tourist offer in many coastal villages in Morocco limits their ability to attract visitors outside the summer season."
