Moroccan City Reverses Street Naming After Wahhabi Preachers Controversy

The reaction of the authorities was eagerly awaited after the current PJD mayor changed the names of several streets in Temara. Mouh Rejdali had indeed chosen the names of Wahhabi preachers and sheikhs to name streets.
During the meeting of the Témara city council, the mayor presented preachers and sheikhs of Wahhabism such as Khalid Assoltan, Hamad Adahlouss, Ahmed Anakib or Khalid Saoud Lhalibi as "companions of the prophet", reports Assabah. According to the same source, it is a real "masquerade" which tends to undermine the religious reforms undertaken in Morocco.
This project, which would have started in 2003, on the initiative of the president of the urban commune of Témara, Mouh Rejdali, a member of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), has provoked reactions from the population of the city who denounced and condemned this initiative on social networks.
In the wake of this, the competent authorities launched a vast "disinfection" operation of the public space. Thus, all the plates on which the "dubious" appellations are inscribed have been simply removed during this operation.
