Moroccan City’s Rainbow-Colored Cemetery Sparks Controversy

The authorities of Chefchaouen had the strange idea of brightening up a cemetery with colors reminiscent of the LGBT community flag.
The colors of the rainbow flag, the flag of the gay community, in a cemetery, in Chefchaouen, no this is not a joke. We can see in photos the stairs leading to a cemetery repainted in this way.
This strange idea comes from the prefecture, which wanted to restore the said cemetery. Thus, it was probably a question of bringing a semblance of cheerfulness to those who would go there, a good idea for those in charge. At least, they thought so!
But this opinion is not at all shared by the deputy mayor of Chefchaouen (an elected member of the PJD - Islamist party), who has gone on a crusade against the colors of this staircase, arguing that a cemetery is a sacred place that must be respected and that the chosen colors are too confusing.
The city of Chefchaouen, also called the blue city, is known worldwide for its bright colors and hundreds of thousands of national and international tourists flock there to admire them.
