Moroccan City Protests Skyrocketing Water and Electricity Bills

Dozens of residents of the city of Zagora are angry with the National Office of Electricity and Water (ONEE). The cause is the soaring water and electricity bills.
They came in large numbers from the neighborhoods of Draa, Amzrou, Zawiyet al Baraka, to cry out their anger at the exorbitant water and electricity bills that, they claim, are ruining their purchasing power. On this occasion, the protesters brandished copies of bills amounting to 1,500 DHS when their previous bills cost 10 times less, or 150 DHS.
According to the explanations of the protesters cited by Barlamane, the prices listed on the bills corresponded to the rates of the fifth tranche. They hold the head of the National Office of Drinking Water in Zagora responsible for the situation they are going through.
Already, representatives of human rights associations and community activists in the city of Zagora intend to set up a committee responsible for bringing these complaints to the governor of the province, according to local sources.
