Moroccan City Bans Animal-Drawn Carts on Major Roads to Improve Safety and Cleanliness

Accused of being one of the causes of traffic accidents and dirtying the city, animal-drawn carts are no longer welcome in Berrechid. A municipal decree has been issued to this effect.
This is not the first time that a municipal decree has been issued against the circulation of animal-drawn carts. Several cities have tried without success to get rid of them. Berrechid hopes at least to prevent their circulation on the main arteries of the city, particularly on Mohammed V, Hassan II, Moulay Ismail and FAR avenues, reports the daily Al Akhbar.
The issue was raised during the last session of the City Council and the elected officials voted by a majority for its ban. The implementation of the decree signed by the President of the Council will begin with the installation of signs informing road users of the ban on carts in the affected arteries, while restrictions will be imposed on others, such as the obligation to respect specific lanes.
The municipal council hopes through these measures to put an end to the chaos that has been observed for several years, preventing the fluidity of traffic. The decision is receiving the approval of many citizens, especially since the majority of those who drive them transport waste, leaving behind very dirty alleys. For many, it is time for Berrechid to distance itself from the image of a rural area that it has been given with the proliferation of these animal-drawn carts.
