There will be no festivities celebrating Achoura this year in Safi. The provincial authorities announced this on Thursday, explaining that this could contribute to the spread of Covid-19.
The ban issued by Lahoucine Chaynane, the governor of the province, covers all festivities organized during Achoura 1442 H at the provincial level.
This includes bonfires (chouala), firecrackers, visits to cemeteries, and gatherings in neighborhoods, reports the MAP, which stresses that all offenders will be punished according to the terms of the law. Local authorities have received instructions to enforce this ban.
