Moroccan Cities Grapple with Eid al-Adha Waste Management Challenges

In Morocco, the management of waste during the celebration of Eid al-Adha remains one of the challenges that local authorities struggle to overcome each year.
Apart from the distribution of garbage bags two or three days before the celebration of the Feast of Sacrifice, the local authorities do not implement any clear strategy for waste management during the Eid al-Adha period. Thus, the popular neighborhoods of the kingdom are filled with tons of waste during and after the celebration of this festival.
The phenomenon is observed every year in all the cities of the kingdom, under the helpless gaze of the local authorities. For some observers, the lack of public awareness and the refusal of local authorities to opt for delegated waste management could explain this situation of chaos observed every year after Eid al-Adha.
Environmental experts, for their part, believe that the delay of the delegated waste management companies in the removal and collection of waste is the main reason for the overload of waste in the neighborhoods and cities during the celebration of the Feast of Sacrifice.
