Moroccan TV Channel Sparks Outrage with False Death Report of Singer Abdelwahab Doukkali

Medi1 TV is under fire for having mentioned the name of Abdelwahab Doukkali preceded by "the late" in a report on the Mers Sultan neighborhood of Casablanca, broadcast on Sunday in the news bulletins of the channel, leading to believe that the artist is deceased.
During the broadcast of the report, Medi1 TV viewers were surprised to hear "the late Abdelwahab Doukkali", while the person concerned is still alive. A professional mistake that has aroused the anger of the artist’s relatives and fans. Many Internet users have also expressed their outrage at this latest blunder of the channel, wondering about "the criteria adopted to verify information and the lack of professionalism and vigilance among the channel’s editorial staff, since the same report was broadcast repeatedly in different bulletins over a twenty-four hour period, and even posted on the institution’s website."
Medi1 TV’s editorial errors have multiplied in recent months. The channel even managed to offend King Mohammed VI, observers recall. The mistake on Abdelwahab Doukkali comes a few months after the appointment of a new director of information who, according to a statement from the channel, should "oversee the production of distinctive news content, meeting quality requirements and professional standards, in accordance with Medi1’s legal and regulatory commitments."
