Moroccan Central Bank Governor Set to Retire After 17-Year Tenure

Abdellatif Jouahri, Governor of Bank Al Maghrib, plans to take his leave in the coming months. The man, who will be celebrating his 81st birthday, will have spent 17 years at the head of the kingdom’s largest financial institution.
The banker and former minister, who had headed the CIMR between 2002 and 2003, should retire immediately after the 2021 legislative elections, according to sources reported by the Chamalpress website.
The media adds that the current Minister of Finance and Economy, Mohamed Benchaâboun, would be tipped to succeed Abdellatif Jouahri as Wali of Bank Al Maghrib.
The native of Fez, who had been entrusted with several ministerial portfolios before being appointed in 2003 as head of Bank Al Maghrib, is considered one of the best central bank governors in the world.
