Moroccan Cannabis Farmers Form Committee to Advocate for Legalization Interests

Indian hemp farmers in the provinces of Al Hoceima and Chefchaouen have created a coordination committee for the areas of origin of the cannabis plant. It is mandated to monitor the evolution of the cannabis legalization project with a view to effectively taking into account the main demands of producers in this area.
The Coordination Committee for the Areas of Origin of the Cannabis Plant is responsible, according to its initiators, for prevailing in the ongoing debate on the interests of small farmers from the Bni Khalids and Ketamas tribes concentrated in the regions at the level of the provinces of Al Hoceima and Chefchaouen.
To this end, the Committee intends to adopt this week its memorandum of amendment on the draft law and then engage in "real and civilized" discussions with all the government institutions concerned by the file.
Setting the tone, the committee notes that at the end of the various meetings held to present the project, the farmers, their children, the associative actors and the inhabitants of the two provinces, warn that the law would be well received provided that it is limited to the historical regions of the provinces of Al Hoceima and Chefchaouen and that it is accompanied by measures in the economic, social and human rights fields in favor of the inhabitants of these regions.
While the Coordination Committee wishes to plead for the opening in the region of training, vocational guidance and twinning centers for farmers and young people, it also wants to prioritize the need for agricultural and tourism investments in the region or the issuance of licenses for recreational uses of cannabis.
The draft law 13-21 on the legal use of cannabis, adopted on March 11 by the Moroccan government, is pending adoption in parliament.
