Moroccan Businessman Arrested After 3-Hour Chase for Illegal Antelope Hunting During Lockdown

The gendarmerie elements of Anzi proceeded to the arrest of a businessman and two other individuals, after a three-hour chase. They are accused of having hunted antelopes at night, during the confinement.
The facts date back to May 4. A businessman, rifle in hand, was hunting long-horned antelopes at night. He had gone to the commune of Tafraoute AL Mouloud, aboard a 4x4 vehicle accompanied by his driver and another individual.
The three individuals had opened fire with a rifle, before fleeing to the commune of Tafraoute AL Mouloud, reports Al Akhbar. They had committed the same offense at the level of the Tnine Aday center. The caïd of Anzi, who heard the shots, immediately alerted the royal gendarmerie brigade of the region.
Arriving on the spot, the gendarmes managed to arrest the three suspects after a three-hour chase as they were trying to leave the Anzi perimeter to reach the province of Chtouka Ait Baha. One of the tires of their vehicle hits a rock and bursts. The driver surrenders without resistance, while the other two fled. After a sweep of the area, the gendarmes finally arrested them.
During the search of the vehicle, a sum of 40,000 dirhams and a checkbook were seized. Placed in custody, these suspects will be brought before the competent prosecutor’s office after the end of the ongoing investigation.
