Moroccan Blogger Sentenced for ’Incitement’ Over Hirak Movement Post

The blogger, Adnan Ahemdoun, a member of Al Adl Wal Ihsane, was sentenced to four months in prison with probation and a fine of 500 DH. It was the Court of First Instance of Tétouan that handed down the verdict, this Wednesday.
The public prosecutor had decided to prosecute the blogger for "incitement to demonstrate", following a publication on the Hirak movement in Jerada attributed to him.
On its official website, the Jamaâ declared that this court decision "shows another aspect of the restrictions on freedom of opinion and expression that the country has experienced in recent years," reports Hespress.
For the Islamist movement, the fact of arresting and prosecuting, up to condemning Adnan Ahemdoun, "remains a testimony to the persistence of passive methods of oppression, intimidation of all free voices expressing contrary opinions".
Several activists and human rights defenders came to support the blogger during the hearing at the Court of First Instance of Tétouan. A sit-in was also organized, in front of the courthouse, by some members of Al Adl Wal Ihsane.
