Moroccan Beaches Raise COVID-19 Concerns as Crowds Ignore Safety Measures

After more than 3 months of lockdown, Moroccans are flocking to the beaches, in search of fresh air. At some beaches, including Ain Diab, safety measures such as social distancing and wearing masks are not being respected, making these places of rest new hotbeds of infection.
As the arrival of foreign vacationers awaits, the summer season has started this year with more enthusiasm than usual, notes the daily Assabah. Unfortunately, barrier gestures are not being respected on site. Vacationers are deaf to the call to respect these rules. This negligence increases the risk of the appearance of clusters of infection given the large number of vacationers who are storming the beaches in these times of heat wave.
The observation is distressing in Ain Diab, in Casablanca. Like other beaches in Morocco, the rules of distancing are also not respected on this beach in the capital city, which is moreover one of the cities most affected by covid-19. To date, the city and its Settat region alone account for 25.59% of cases. Even if in some places, some security agents are on duty to impose these safety measures, the situation is difficult to control in the face of such a dense crowd.
For the same daily, the decision of the local authorities to establish administrative schedules for the beaches has only complicated the situation. As a result, we notice a concentration of bathers in reduced spaces where it becomes impossible to respect physical distancing. As for the visitors who are lounging on the sand, they follow the instructions.
To reduce congestion both at the seaside and in the means of transport that take vacationers to the Ain Diab beach, the government must proceed, according to the newspaper, to the total liberation of the schedules for the use of the beaches.
