Moroccan Beaches Closed as Authorities Tighten Security After Teen’s Drowning

The drowning death of a teenager near Martil has led to increased security around the beaches. A few days before the announced deconfinement on June 11, all roads leading to the beaches of Tangier and Tetouan have been closed to traffic.
In the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, access to the beaches, particularly the small beach of Merqala and El Ghredouri, off the R’mila forest, is now prohibited, due to the state of emergency, reports the daily Al Akhbar.
This measure also extends to the beaches located near the city, including the municipal beach. All the roads serving these different beaches are blocked following the strengthening of security.
For the same newspaper, the high temperatures recorded in Morocco in recent days do not prevent the population from defying the state of emergency to take a dip during the lockdown. Faced with the epidemiological situation and following the tragedy that occurred in the locality, the authorities have simply decided to prohibit public access to these roads.
