Moroccan Beach Campers Defy Ban as Hotel Prices Soar in Al Hoceima

In Al Hoceima, many vacationers have found a trick to avoid the hotels that have become too expensive for them.
Due to the exorbitant prices charged by hotels, many vacationers have set up tents near the beaches despite the ban by the authorities and the risks. These tents are proliferating on beaches like Quemado, Calabonita, Isly, Thikkit, etc. It is common to see vacationers moving from one beach to another throughout their stay in Al Hoceima, tents on their backs. They use these tents to protect themselves from the heat during the day and the cold at night. These vacationers do not have the means to rent apartments whose prices can reach 600 dirhams per night.
While the local authorities regularly carry out campaigns to prevent the installation of these tents, they have not yet invited the tourism professionals of the city and the owners of hotels and tourist residences to a meeting to study the problem of high prices and insufficient hotel supply, it is believed.
