Moroccan Bakers’ Federation Suspends Top Officials Amid Bread Price Controversy

During an extraordinary meeting of its central office, the National Federation of Bakery and Pastry in Morocco (FNBP) suspended two officials. A suspension that comes in the wake of the controversy over the rise in bread prices.
The president of the national council and the secretary general of the National Federation of Bakery and Pastry in Morocco (FNBP) have been suspended from their positions. Their dismissal and replacement will be discussed in 15 days during an extraordinary session of the national council. In a statement relayed by Al Oâmk Al Maghribi, the FNBP justifies this measure by "illegal abuses committed by the persons concerned". The federation accuses the two officials "of collusion with a false organization in order to sow confusion, parasitize professionals and stop the construction process".
The announcement by another professional organization of bakers of the surge in the price of bread due to the rise in wheat prices on the world market has meanwhile sparked lively controversy. Reacting to this announcement, the FNBP denied any intention to raise the price of bread, which is subsidized by the state, and insisted that it is the only federation representing professionals in the sector to the state.
