Moroccan Auxiliary Forces Members Get 20 Years for Drug Trafficking Scheme

Six members of the auxiliary forces were convicted by the Rabat Court of Appeal for corruption and drug trafficking.
The verdict was handed down on Monday, October 21, 2024. Accused of complicity in a drug trafficking case, six members of the auxiliary forces were sentenced to 20 years in prison, reports Barlamane. In addition to the prison sentence, each of them was fined 100,000 dirhams. They must also pay 27 million dirhams in damages to the civil party.
Accused of having disclosed sensitive information and of having participated in the organization of the drug smuggling operation abroad, five other elements of the same corps, operating in Nador, were sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by the court. These accused, who were part of a military network in charge of border surveillance, are accused of having turned a blind eye to major drug smuggling operations.
Complying with the instructions of the public prosecutor’s office, the investigating judge is continuing the investigations relating to financial crimes, abuse of power and mismanagement of public funds, which could be added to the charges against the accused. They could face additional sentences.
Several other military personnel involved in similar cases are facing justice in Morocco.
