Moroccan Auxiliary Forces Arrested in Nador for Aiding Illegal Immigration

The Royal Gendarmerie has arrested seven elements of the auxiliary forces in the Nador region for corruption related to illegal immigration.

The accused would have "facilitated" the departure of candidates for illegal immigration from the coasts of Nador, reports Assabah. Last week, three of them, including a sergeant, head of the Auxiliary Forces unit of the coastal commune of Beni Chiker and his deputy, were placed in pre-trial detention in the local prison of Ras-El-Mâa, on the orders of the investigating judge in charge of financial crimes at the Fez Court of Appeal. The four others are being prosecuted while at liberty.

The seven defendants were presented to the Attorney General of the Fez Court of Appeal. According to judicial sources, they were caught in the act by the head of the Nador judicial police brigade, who surprised them facilitating the embarkation of illegal migrants bound for Europe. A sum of 40,000 dirhams was found in the car of one of them. The latter immediately acknowledged that these funds came from these corruption practices, revealing the complicity of the sergeant and his deputy.

These confessions allowed the Gendarmerie to arrest the sergeant of the auxiliary forces and his deputy. Subjected to questioning, the latter finally admitted to being in contact with networks of smugglers of illegal immigrants. A sum of 250,000 dirhams was found at his home during a search. Faced with so much incriminating evidence, the sergeant also eventually confessed.
