Moroccan Authorities Seize Chicken Manure Used to Fatten Eid al-Adha Sheep

The services of the Royal Gendarmerie of the Kenitra region seized a shipment of chicken manure intended to fatten the sheep for sale during Eid Al-Adha.
A joint commission composed of representatives of the Office of Sanitary Security (ONSSA), local authorities and the Royal Gendarmerie ordered the destruction of this shipment of chicken manure, reports Al Massae. The preliminary investigation revealed that the shipment was to be transported to a farm in the region. This farm planned to use it as feed for the sheep, before transferring them to the markets in the run-up to Eid Al-Adha. The truck was seized. The driver, for his part, was heard by the investigators before being brought before the public prosecutor.
Since 2017, the authorities have redoubled their vigilance regarding the monitoring of manure shipments. That year, this fecal matter was the cause of serious infections in sheep. Since then, the Ministry of Agriculture has taken measures, which allow monitoring the health status of the herd and ensuring the necessary hygiene conditions throughout the chain: breeding, transport and sale.
