Moroccan Authorities Probe Counterfeit Currency Ring in Skhirat

The gendarmerie services, in coordination with other security services, are working to dismantle an active counterfeit banknote trafficking network in Skhirat. The investigation is ongoing.
It all started with the discovery of a fake 200 dirham banknote in the cash register of an employee of a bank branch, located in Sidi Yahia Zaer, near Skhirat. After verifying the authenticity of all the banknotes available in its safe, the agency discovered that at least 5 banknotes, all worth 200 dirhams and bearing the same serial number, were fake, reports Assabah. Alerted, the gendarmerie services went to the agency and subsequently opened an investigation.
The gendarmes suspect the money transfer operations carried out in this agency on the same day, and have asked to view the surveillance camera recordings and to obtain copies of the money transfer transaction receipts. A total of 33 operations are under investigation. The aim is to identify the people involved in this counterfeit banknote trafficking.
In order to determine whether this network is active only in the Skhirat region or elsewhere, the gendarmerie services are working with other security services. The goal is to succeed in dismantling this counterfeit banknote trafficking network.
