Moroccan Authorities Destroy Nearly 2 Tons of Cannabis in Laâyoune Crackdown

The customs administration services of Laâyoune proceeded, on Tuesday, September 17, to the incineration of 1,942 kg of chira as well as other prohibited materials. This action follows the seizure of this large quantity of drugs by the Customs services, elements of the Royal Gendarmerie and the Judicial Police in the region.
The fight against all forms of smuggling is intensifying in the Kingdom. In total, a quantity of 1,942 kg of chira was incinerated in Laâyoune.
According to Bouâmatou Yahya, the acting ordinator of customs and indirect taxes in Laâyoune, this incineration and destruction operation was carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, and concerned 471 packs of contraband cigarettes, 183.7 kg of cannabis resin, 37 kg of kif, 7 units of beer and 1,480 liters of brandy.
He also indicated that the destruction operation particularly concerned 731 grams of cocaine, 25.73 kg of snuff tobacco, 393 kg of maassel, 11,285 psychotropic tablets, 7 hookahs, in addition to 2,350 of kerosene, 2,760 liters of super as well as other smuggled products such as alcoholic beverages and electronic products (watches, connected pens and cameras).
