Moroccan Authorities Clear Illegal Beach Structures in Dar Bouazza Crackdown

The operation to liberate the public maritime domain continues in Dar Bouazza. The local authorities of the city have recently served a formal notice to the operators of restaurants and straw huts, illegally installed on the city’s beach.
After the coastal areas like Imsouane, Aourir, Sidi Abderrahman, Tamaris and Dahomey, the governor of the province of Nouaceur has decided to free the beaches of Dar Bouazza from the grip of restaurants and straw huts. A formal notice has just been sent to the operators of these establishments accused of illegally occupying the public maritime domain.
Among the restaurants targeted by this measure are Sunny Beach, Baya Beach, Seven Beach Balboa 1, Malibu Beach, Atlantic Boulevard, Taloche and Babaloo Beach. Establishments very popular with Casablancans and tourists.
This operation is part of a general policy of redevelopment of the coastal areas in Morocco. Civil society organizations have drawn the attention of the authorities to the negative consequences of this operation on tourism development, local culture and heritage.
Concerns about the fate of the inhabitants of the affected areas, some of whom are left homeless, have been expressed by these associations, which call on the authorities to assist these victims.
